The traditional elements of figure skating were at some point the result of innovators. Skaters like Axel Paulsen and Ulrich Salchow and Alois Lutz, all have jumps named after them. Those jumps orginated from the exploration of different edge combinations. Throughout the history of figure skating, elements have evolved by skaters finding new tricks and improving old ones. Additionally techniques have changed along with the equipment used by the skaters. Because of this progression, today’s ice tricks come from a wider variety of influences and modern trick skating has become a very broad subject. The innovators are those who are able to add a new direction to the athleticism and artistic aspects of ice-skating.
