Here is a trick for extending the life of your skates if plugging the holes with toothpicks and glue is no longer effective. If the leather of on the soles is rotting, you can bolt the blade to the skate through the inside of the boot.
You have to take the blade off completely and drill holes straight through the sole. Buy a few short bolts for the front holes and a couple long bolts for the heels. You might have to drill the holes on you blades a bit wider too. By the way, this is a desperate measure so don’t try it unless your skates have really had it.
